Avord air show

Avord Air Base celebrated its 70th anniversary in style with an open house where nearly 100,000 visitors were able to enjoy, in addition to the static display, spectacular aerial displays, including limited-ticket KC135 and AWACS displays from the Air Force.

The 702nd Air Force Base, Capitaine Georges Madones, is located in Bourges, France. The base is named after Captain Georges Madon and is home to the following squadrons:

  • Escadron de détection et contrôle aéroportés 0/36 Berry AWACS
  • Escadron de défense sol-air 2/950 Sancerre (defensa sol-aire)

One of the most interesting experiences was being able to visit the interior of one of the French Air Force’s AWACS aircraft, part of the static display. Unfortunately, for security reasons, photography was strictly prohibited. Only the cockpit is visible, as shown in the photograph. Good weather accompanied the entire day, allowing those present to observe highly interesting flight displays, including AWACS, KC-135 tankers, Rafale aircraft, Red Arrows aerobatic patrols, Embraer Xingu aircraft flying in three-person formation, Luftwaffe C-130 Hercules aircraft, and, of course, the French Aerobatic Patrol.
