Sometimes when visiting some countries or cities it is surprising to find certain places full of history and you are even more surprised by what you can find, in Malta this happens, you find yourself walking among vineyards, going down from the tourist town of Mdina, and after leaving the military cemetery on the right, you find the Malta Aviation Museum Foundation, in the former RAF Ta’Qali airfield.

Spitfire MK.IX Royal Air Force.
This foundation has been dedicated to the preservation and commemoration of aviation in Malta over the past 80 years. Although almost nothing remains of the former RAF base at Ta’ Qali, only part of the runway remains. We have two hangars where we can explore part of the history of Maltese military aviation. The museum opened its doors on November 1, 1994.
On one hand, we have the hangar that refers to the period of World War II, with a Spitfire MK.IX and a Hawker Hurricane IIA, set with different vehicles from the era.

And then the main hangar, which undergoes maintenance and reconstruction work, where you can enjoy the Cold War period, when it was a British colony and after its independence in 1964.

Among all the aircraft we can enjoy are the traditional Gloster Meteor F8 and NF14, which were stationed in Malta by the RAF, a Douglas C-47, Piper L-4H, North American Texan T6G with Italian registration along with a Fiat G91 R1-B, and an AB-212 AM, among other aircraft and helicopters.
