AeroS, the Catalan aeronautical and space ecosystem, recently held its public launch with the event “The Space Industry: Promoting Collaboration between Industry and Technology” at the Can Calderon Auditorium in Viladecans. The event showcased emerging trends and opportunities in the space sector that could drive the Catalan industry. The institutional welcome was given by Santiago Ballesté, President of AeroS; Olga Morales, Mayor of Viladecans; and Pol Gibert, Secretary General for Business and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Santiago Ballesté has confirmed that AeroS represents the ecosystem that brings together all stakeholders in this sector around a common goal: driving growth in the aeronautical and space industries.
The event highlighted the aeronautical and space industry, which is immersed in a period of global transformation and expansion: we are experiencing the boom in aeronautical, space, unmanned systems, advanced air mobility, and the need to increase the development of dual technologies. “This new environment demands new responses, alliances, and strategies that will be channeled through AeroS,” said Ballesté. Furthermore, “we want to position Catalonia as a leading European region in these sectors, to attract investment and talent. Catalonia has the industrial, technological, and human capabilities to achieve this,” explained the president of AeroS. “Our greatest strength is that we are already a benchmark in sectors such as metallurgy, automotive, and technology,” Ballesté emphasized.

The event also made it clear that many companies, especially industrial and technology SMEs, need structures, people, and support that connect them to the opportunities of these expanding sectors. AeroS is this structure; a collaborative ecosystem that unites companies, clusters, technology centers, training organizations, and institutions to promote strategic projects, attract talent, foster digitalization, and strengthen the industry from a cross-cutting perspective.
At AeroS, we work through committees, such as Industry, Talent, Digitalization, and Strategic Projects. “We will continue to grow, connect, and transform. Today, we have more than 30 direct partners and a network of 2,000 indirect partners, representing more than 77,000 employees. But beyond the numbers, what matters is our commitment to collaboration and the future,” Ballesté concluded.
Pol Gibert, Secretary General for Enterprise and Employment of the Generalitat of Catalonia, emphasized the importance of Catalonia taking a leading position in Europe in the aerospace sector and confirmed the unanimous and firm support of the Generalitat and its support for the sector’s initiatives: “We don’t want this opportunity to pass us by without Catalonia seizing it.” For her part, Maria Galindo, Secretary for Digital Policies of the Generalitat of Catalonia, highlighted the significant opportunities available to Catalonia, such as its industrial and entrepreneurial base.
Jordi García Brustenga, Director General of Industrial and SME Strategy at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, joined in supporting AeroS, also highlighting its contribution to national security and strategic autonomy. Brustenga added that there are sectors that need to diversify, and that the significant investments the EU will make in security and defense must be taken into account.
