NASA selects SpaceX to tow and crash the International Space Station (ISS)

NASA has announced that SpaceX has been selected to develop and deliver an orbiter capable of delivering the space station into orbit and ensuring that hazards are avoided in populated areas once the maneuver to crash the ISS begins at the end of its life.
“The selection of a U.S. orbiter for the International Space Station will help NASA and its international partners ensure a safe and responsible transition into low-Earth orbit at the end of the station’s operations. This decision also supports NASA’s plans for future commercial destinations and enables the continued use of near-Earth space,” said Ken Bowersox, associate administrator for the Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington. “The orbiting laboratory remains a model for science, exploration, and partnerships in space for the benefit of all.”
